Congress “BIM is benefit for Facility Management”
Published on 26.11.2013
November 7th a conference was held in Rotterdam on a strong upcoming issue: how can we use BIM in the maintenance and Facility Management phase? About 150 architects, engineering firms, building constructors, etc. participated.
BIM, Building Information Modeling, is often practiced in the design and build phases, mostly using Autodesk software (Revit). However, one of the essences of BIM is that it is not only a methodology, but also BIM is a data model in which all relevant features of buildings, assets and facilities are registered. We know that information “as built” is of extreme value for maintenance and Facility Management. So why start all over again with gathering data after commissioning?
PROCOS Nederland was one of the speakers, and we presented our solution how to connect the Real Estate, Architecture and Construction branches with the Facility Management branch. We explained our vision and drive and showed how the direct, bi-directional integration between Autodesk and ARCHIBUS can easily help to integrate both worlds.
But this bi-directional integration can also create transparent collaboration on both existing as well as new built environments: the Real Estate or Facility Manager can now easily be involved in the very first Level of Development (LOD) for transformation and design. This will give all parties involved great advantages in sustainability and Life Cycle Management of the entire workspace: the circular BIM is born.
It was clear to all participants that there are huge advantages by using this bi-directional integration, 24/7 available, one data model, 100% trustworthy!
